My name is Laura, and I am a Catholic professional living and working in the metro Washington, DC area. I love writing and all things spiritual exploration and my purpose in this blog is to explore, rather than instruct.

Why "bright as the sun?"

I am a member of the Legion of Mary, a Catholic service organization whose members serve their churches and communities in 170 countries around the globe. I joined in 2014, serving as the president of my church's praesidium, and now serving as an auxiliary.

The phrase "bright as the sun" comes from the Catena, a specific part of the Legion of Mary prayers. The full phrase is:

"Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?"

It is Mary who brought me back to the Church, and I will forever be grateful to her for all she has done in my life.

You can catch my thoughts here on the blog, as well as in my column at Catholic Stand. I have also contributed to Verily Magazine and appear on Relevant Radio's Morning Air program.
