St. Anne Novena

Laura DeMaria

It feels like less than a year ago that I was praying this novena, and yet here we are again, asking St. Anne, the mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus, for her intercession. St. Anne's feast day is July 26th and Pray More Novenas is leading the novena in her name. I do love that site, not just for its daily reminders, but because of the community, as well. There's something very moving about joining one's prayers with those from all over the world, and knowing that people I have never met are praying for me, as well.

Many single women pray to St. Anne ("St Anne, St. Anne, send me a man" is the shorter version of this novena - ha) but I'd also like to think about her importance as a mother. Tradition holds that she conceived Mary in old age and, of course, immaculately. I will focus my prayers during this time on all the mothers and soon to be mothers I know. St. Anne must have been doing something right to have successfully raised the Mother of God.

For those of you joining in on this novena, I pray for your intentions, as well.

Announcement: Writing for the Catholic Stand!

Laura DeMaria

I have a fun announcement! Starting July 18, I will now be contributing once monthly to Catholic Stand. Sneakity-peekity of my author profile here.

What will I write about? Oh, I'm sure you can guess: the Legion of Mary, favorite saints, prison ministry, what it means to be human. What it means to be human! In other words, I will never, ever run out of topics.

I look forward to sharing my articles here. Huzzah!

The St. Joseph Campaign at the Catholic Information Center

Laura DeMaria

The Catholic Information Center (CIC) is in the middle of its St. Joseph Campaign, wherein a generous donor has agreed to match every dollar donated to the $100,000 goal. Donate here and learn a little more about the CIC here.

The CIC is a wonderful resource to have so close to home - not only do they host Theology on Tap during the summer, but offer daily Mass and lectures year-round, in addition to selling lovely books and trinkets out of their storefront on K St. I get a little too excited about Catholic paraphernalia - whenever I am at the CIC I want to buy all he Crucifixes, all the saint cards, all the books. It's a nice little oasis in the city, and a worthy cause to support, and I encourage you to donate so that DC-ers in years to come can have access to this same wonderful resource.
